The BGN Annual Corporate Challenge Golf Tournament
The Corporate Challenge is BGN's annual one-day, team tournament. Teams of four compete for either the BGN Biotech Cup or BGN Vendor Cup using 'best-ball' team scoring. Trophies are awarded to the biotech company and vendor company with the lowest score. Additionally, prizes are awarded for specific hole contests, such as 'closest to the pin' and 'longest drive.' The tournament includes lunch, dinner, and the 19th Hole awards banquet and prize give away.

The 2008 tournament was held once again at Maderas Golf Club, on October 3, 2008.

BGN Corporate Challenge OFFICIAL RULES:

  1. Men play from Blues. Women play from forward tees.
  2. Each team member hits. Team chooses best of the four balls.
  3. The best ball is selected and the player of that ball hits it as it lies. Each team member hits a ball from within one club length of the selected ball's position. Subsequent balls should be positioned with the club head, not hand-placed, maintaining the same lie and stance, except for sand shots (see below). If selected ball is in the rough or a sand trap, each team member must hit from the rough or the sand trap as well.
  4. If the team is playing from a sand trap, the first player shall hit the ball as it lies. Subsequent players should hand-place the ball in the trap near the position where the first player hit.
  5. Teams shall hole out all putts. But, in the interest of speeding up play, if a player putts to within tap-in distance (a foot or less), they may tap-in rather than marking. If a subsequent player holes the original putt, the lower score counts.
  6. Each team member must contribute at least 2 drives including par 3's.
  7. If all players' balls are lost on the same shot, they should proceed under the general lost ball rules (typically, one stroke penalty) and choose the best result under the circumstances.
  8. If all players' balls appear to be out of bounds on the same shot, they should consider golf lessons, then hit provisionals. In the interest of speeding up play, it is not necessary for all team members to re-hit. Take a reasonable shot and keep moving.
  9. No Shows:
    a. If one team member fails to show, one of the three remaining players will be allowed to play 2 balls, including putts, on each hole. The player designated to play 2 balls should rotate on a hole-by-hole basis.
    b. If two or more team members fail to show, the remaining player(s) will be allowed to play 2 balls, including putts, throughout the round.
  10. Late arrivals/Early departures: If one or more team members arrive late or have to leave early, the remaining players shall play all applicable holes per the No Show rule.
  11. Ties will be broken as follows:
    a. Low team score for the last 9 holes.
    b. Low team score for the last 6 holes.
    c. Low team score for the last 3 holes.
    d. Low team score for the last hole.
    e. Coin flip.
  12. Aside from the above rules, the normal rules of golf will apply.

The game of golf is a game of integrity. All teams will be on their honor to follow the above rules, maintain an accurate score, and penalize themselves when appropriate.
